So last night after I got home from seeing Avatar (Which was most enjoyable) I realized that I never actually talked about going to the movies in France and the experience that it brings.
First of all, the movie theatre that I've frequented the most is caled Le Rialto, which is on Rue Rivoli and is about a five minute walk from my apartment. Rue Rivoloi is what they would call a Version Originale theatre, meaning it shows movies in their original language, but French subtitles. So i've seen a couple of American movies there. Now, it's not like in the US where people go ten minutes early to get good seats. No, the time it says on the website or the newspaper are the times that they will start letting people in. So, if a movie says 9pm, the movie actually wont' start till about 9:30 with trailers and commercials.
The seats are comfortable and the experience is just as good or as bad as going to an American theater.
there are about six different theaters in Nice, of which i've been to three. There are two Pathes cinemas in the center of town, they show the new releases, but always in Version Francaise.
Overall, given that the French were the ones that created film, they respect it enough to make it an enjoyable experience.
