About twenty minutes west by train is a small quaint little town called Antibes. Also located along the coast of the south of France, Antibes has makes for a pleasant day trip that is neither expensive nor exhausting.
Taking any train heading west from Gare SNCF can bring you to Antibes. Once off the train, the best thing to do is head towards the water and the barrier wall. There is a small little beach where you can sit and tan if you like, or go for a swim. Walking along the wall, you will get a great view of the ocean as well as the surrounding cities along the sea, including Nice in the far off distance.
Walking inwards from the wall, is Old Antibes, and like most touristy places in France it is filled with restaurants, boutiques and souvenir shops. They also have a daily farmer’s market in the center of town where people can buy fresh produce. Similarly, at various places within the town are people selling anything and everything. Really the adage, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure takes holds true here.
Finally, for the history buffs, there are three or four museums to go to. One of which is the Picasso Museum. It’s more of a modern art collection rather than a Picasso gallery, so keep that in mind. Also, there is Fort Carré from world war one, which once atop, has a great view of the city and the ocean.
