Public transportation is something that usually only people in big cities in America can use. However, public transportation is something of a commonality in most of the cities in France. There are only two cities that use a subway/metro system: Paris and Versailles. The others, still have an adequate public transportation system that makes traveling around a city enjoyable and interesting. Nice is no exception.
Though the touristy parts of Nice can all physically be gotten to with little difficulty by foot, it’s still nice to be able to take a bus for the ten minute ride as oppose to the half an hour walk. The normal buses (those that go to the centre-ville and the port) usually run ever 10-15 minutes. Where I live, I can take any bus to get to Jean-Medecin and any bus back to my apartment. To get to the university, I have to take the 22.
A brief note on the buses; during the rush hours, it is difficult to get room on a bus. For example, if I try to get a bus at 8:30 for my 9:00 classes, usually I won’t be able to fit on the bus, because all the other students are trying to get on them as well. So though Ligne d’Azur (the bus line in Nice) is dependable and helps a lot, it isn’t perfect.
There are three night buses that run around the popular areas in Nice but they are sporadic and I don’t know too much about them but it is N2, N3 and N5. Similarly, there are buses that run to the Airports and to outside of Nice. There are multiple ones of these, and as far as I know, they run at various hours during the day, and for the airport, a few that go up until midnight.
