So, it's day three of our little trip, and we are currently in the very large (and quite beautiful) city of Lyon. Our first day of the trip started out by taking what was supposed to be a four hour drive, and turning it into an overnight stay in some pissant town in the south of France.
Due to Nice's wonderful traffic patterns, my unfamiliarness with the region (while driving) and just overall panick, we missed the turn for the highway and ended up on the equivalent to a country road to get to Grenoble. So after pulling over on the side of the street, we decided, why the hell not, we had nothing to lose. So after taking several winding roads around moutnains, driving through valleys and genuinley being terrified at some points I was either going to drive off a cliff or into the side of the Alpes, we made it into this little town called "Chateau Arnoux." Being that it was about 9 o clock at night, we decided to have dinner there. It was only then did I realize how utterly exhausted I was from driving and just from the day, and we had another 3 to 4 hours to go before we even made it to Grenoble!
So we stayed in the same hotel as the restaurant, which was very hot, but the town was actually a picturesque little town. At about 7am we hopped in the car and continued our windy twisty drive to Grenoble, and at about 10am yesterday morning we ended up in the center of town.
Because it was still too early to find anytihng to eat, this nice lady at a restaurant actually made us steak because we needed something more than croissants :). Then, we found a nice little hotel room, dropped our stuff off, and went up to see an old fort atop a mountain, and even went inside an old army weapons storage cave. Very interesting. The mountain ended up kicking our ass lol. It was a very long walk back down.
Had dinner at a crappy fast food restaurant then went out bar hopping a bit. Went to bed at about 2. Woke up at 8:30 this morning. and started on our drive to Lyon. And here I am. Matt's fixing a crisis back at his company, I just did some laundry...And tomorrow a four hour drive to start a wine route.
Woot! It's cool to actually do what you've dreamed of!
