So I’ve been in France for two weeks. I’ve adjusted quite well in my opinion. When I left Matt at the airport, and when I arrived in Nice, I knew, right from the get-go, that it was going to be a completely different experience than my first trip into France, when I stayed in Guadeloupe.
Today is the first day since I’ve been here that it isn’t sunny or 80 degrees. It’s quite cloudy, and a cool 65 or so. The tourists have all left, so now there are only the Nicois. So hopefully, making friends should be a little bit easier, seeing now I should no longer be considered a “tourist.”
My nights have been filled with various activities. The first two weeks were quite busy, going out to the various different gay bars, trying to make friends, succeeding some nights, failing miserably others. But I’m resilient, or stubborn depending on what side of the coin you want to look at.
I think what made my positive sentiments here concrete was my first night. My friend Annaelle, a girl whom I had known from Montclair (and actually wasn’t doing the same thing there that I am doing here) showed me around for a bit with her friend. We ended up on the beach, under a bright moon, listening to the ocean, and just talking, her friend playing guitar, and drinking wine. It was just… SOO COOL! For the other nights, it’s been house party here, beach party there. The other English lecteurs are absolutely wonderful, very nice people, we’re all roughly the same age, so we’ve been trying to keep each other sane.
Even administratively, things are a hell of a lot better, I had a bank account and a cell phone my third day! WOOT! It took nearly three times that the last time! I’m also suppose to get paid at the end of the month, woot!
I’ve got the rest of the year ahead of me, and I get three day weekends! So, I plan on doing quite a bit of traveling here and there. So look out Nice! I’m here!
